Momster in the Closet

Over the past week and a half school has been, let's just say, challenging. I don't think I've begun teaching before 9:15 on any of the days, putting us behind from the start. So many excuses. So many delays. Last Monday, we didn't end until 6PM. I cringe just thinking about it. I even broke my own rule about cutting off the school day by 4PM. Where did the days of being done by noon go?

If Shakespeare doesn't get ready then immediately begin school, he's off to imagination world--a place that mom has a hard time luring him from.

Time for boot camp.

You know those chore charts you hang on your refrigerator? Well, homeschooling is a lot like those. It requires a high degree of discipline from more than the kids. In fact, mom and dad are the driving forces. When mom gets off her game, havoc ensues.

So, time for mommy and kid boot camp and a little revision. I've been going to bed at an early hour and getting up early as well. The thing I haven't been doing is blowing reveille in the ears of my kiddos. Yep, I've been letting them sleep in. I thought this was a kind thing, but it makes a rugged day.

Early to bed
Early to rise
Makes mom happy
And her kids wise

. . . because they actually get their school done without the Momster roaring at them and threatening corporal punishment.

So, time to put the Momster back in the closet and lock the doors. I've got to calm down and just do the right thing: wake my kids and get them moving.

I've been caught in this dilemma before also. It just seems wrong to wake them when I'm having such a delightful time basking in the peace and quiet of the house :)

The Momster was alive and well here yesterday!
