Yesterday I had a mom-of-4 moment. These come sporadically. One mom-of-4 moment a while back was when the baby was poopy and screaming, both boys were crying and Gem was weeping and telling me that I shouldn't yell.
Yesterday's moment leaves me with more dignity, but it was just as mind-fraying. Yesterday, Gem wanted to bake cookies. With a little sigh I gave in. Cookie making went off without a hitch. (Yea!) During one of the baking cycles I asked Gem to keep an eye on Sinatra, who was eating in his high chair, while I vacuumed upstairs. I set the timer for 12 min. and told the general crowd to call me down when the cookies were done.
I went upstairs and began vacuuming. Three or four minutes into the project and Shakespeare called up the stairs, "Sinatra is done!!!"
"Well, take him out of his high chair," I yelled down the stairs.
"But Mom, he's done."
"You're six. You can deal with it!"
I went on vacuuming. Somewhere in the process my internal clock went off and I knew that the cookies were done or close to it. With one room to go I bounded downstairs only to be confronted with DONE!!!
The cookies were a little more than DONE!
The baby was still in the high chair but very messy and DONE!
Shakespeare had not called up the stairs to tell me that Sinatra was done eating, but that Popcorn was DONE on the toilet and needed wiped.
Gem was DONE watching the baby because she was on the phone with my mom, telling her that I was running around in a "tizzy".
So, while mom was listening in, I snatched the filthy Sinatra out of his chair and washed him off in the sink so that he would stop screaming, handed him to the pacing phone talker, opened the oven and retrieved the darkly browned cookies, all the while yelling to the toddler that I would wipe him in a minute.
It lasted for a moment, but did it's job to remind me that being a mom of four can sometimes leave me DONE! I'm just glad that the six year old didn't "deal with it." and that it was mom on the phone at the time.
