Name Em' What They're Called

Tomorrow, my mom and dad are coming to visit. As I was thinking about their arrival, I chuckled a little when I thought of how my parents and my in-laws have something other than grandchildren in common--names.

My mom goes by Cindy, but her real name is Cynthia. My mother-in-law's name is also Cynthia.

Dad goes by Deke. My father-in-law goes by Dick. Neither are their real names.

Dad was called Keith by his family growing up even though it's his middle name. His real name is Donald. Donald Keith, or Donald K, or D.K. finally evolded into Deke. That one stuck.

Jon's dad's given name was George Richard (named after the doctor who delivered him because his parents didn't have a name picked out for him--7th child), but his family called him "Butch". I don't know where they got that one, but thankfully, no one else calls him that. He ended up going with the nickname form of his middle name: Dick.

So, Cindy and Deke and Cynthia and Dick found one another through their children, who, not surprisingly, are named exactly what they are called.
