Turkey has never been on the top of my list of favorite meats, but Turkey Day is a big hit with me. This year we loaded up our small tribe and merged it with another branch of the family tree--a larger branch--Jon's oldest brother, Matt, and his wife Rebecca, and their 7 children (12 and under). Yes, I know that equals 11 young ones in 1 house.
After class on Tuesday, we headed out of town on an 1,100 mile trip to Oklahoma. The first day, we made it 1/3 of the way with only minor traffic problems and a heated debate about who got the orange matchbox car.
At 4:30 the next morning, we rolled out of bed (pre-dressed), put on shoes and jackets and drove the rest of the way. The only interesting things to report were: passing Carrie Underwood's home town, a Corvette with a car top carrier, a new mandate that restricts people under driving age from inquiring about the approximate duration of the journey, and no poopy diapers the entire trip.
When we pulled into town the car thermometer doohicky said 47 degrees, but I'll eat my weight in cayenne pepper if it was a tick above 25. I had forgotten about the ferocious wind that comes "right behind the rain". Rebecca said that it was 82 degrees the day before.
Now everyone is frantically running around, getting the table set, pulling things out of the warming oven and arranging serving trays. I'm blogging--such dedication. I baked a couple of pies this morning, peeled half the sweet potatoes, folded three loads of laundry, and fished a toddler out of a toilet, so don't get any ideas that I haven't done anything today.
Well, time to eat our OK turkey.
