I don't think there is a real pumpkin patch in this state. But that didn't detour the kids from enjoying picking out their pumpkins yesterday.
In Indiana, you went out into a field and picked your pumpkin--and often a bushel of apples too. There were hay rides out to the field and hot apple cider for sale when you came back. Not so in North Carolina.
A couple of years ago a friend asked us to go to a hay ride/pumpkin picking thing an hour from our home. When we got there, the hay ride was authentic (minus the hay) and the pumpkin patch was a grassy spot covered with pre-picked pumpkins. There was no field within sight. It just didn't have that fall feel to it. Sigh.
I enjoy the moderate weather down here, but miss the Yankee autumn.
