This past week was a wonderful experience as a wife, teacher, and mom. My husband brought me a dozen white roses and took me out, my kids liked school and it was done every day by noon, I kept my house nice and put myself together.
The weekend, however, brought new challenges: Shakespeare had a hacking cough, I got hardly any sleep, my house looked like it had been bombed, and the kids were in front of the T.V. for hours on end.
Monday has been interesting. School was difficult. I got a nap. : ) Then at about 5pm Jon called and said that he was on his way (he doesn't get Labor Day off) and asked if everything was ready. Gem had neglected to tell me that Daddy called during my nap and left a message for me; we were having company. Our company showed up 35 minutes after Jon called me. The lower floor of my bombed house was just presentable by the time he rang the doorbell. Jon grilled burgers and I threw together a few side dishes. I thought we'd escaped disaster.
For everyone's entertainment, Popcorn peed his pants while standing up in his chair at the dinner table (thankfully on the deck). We took care of that and then finished dinner and sent the kids inside. While having a nice adult conversation, Gem came to inform me that Popcorn had struck again, this time with cups of water. He had repeatedly filled up then poured cups of water on the playroom floor.
The kids got to bed at 8:15 and are under threat of annihilation if they get up. Company left and I came downstairs and folded laundry. Matching socks is often a trial for me, but after putting together 9 pairs I was so relieved to see something come together successfully. All nine pairs matched and no strays. Thank God! In a DAY where everything seemed to be a LABOR, it meant so much to see the socks come out even.
